Foundation Description

The Anaphiel Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) private operating foundation that supports an ongoing dialogue about art, its relation to our time and to public spaces. Established in Miami in 2005 by Craig Robins, the purpose of the foundation is to support and increase awareness of creative expression and the role of art in everyday life.

The Foundation's primary initiative has been a series of symposia concerning art education in the twenty-first century. In 2005, seven symposia that brought together nearly eighty prominent international artists, designers, architects, writers, art educators, and technologists explored the major issues of art education today and what might be possible for the future. These discussions have led to the creation of the plan for Art + Research, a two-year educational residency program to operate under the aegis of the University of Miami and begin in 2009. As well, a collection of essays inspired by the topics explored in the symposia is now being prepared for publication by MIT Press.
